Backpacking Through the Top 3 Waterfalls of the World
Who thought traveling accross a country to simply see waterfalls would be worth the money and time? Well, it is.
When backpacking in Argentina a few years ago, I had to hop on a flight from Patagonia to Iguazu to spend only 2 days there before flying to Buenos Aires. It was easier (and cheaper) to skip Iguazu altogether. But let me tell you, it was well worth the time and money. Most of the Iguazu waterfall is located in the Argentinia side but some of it is on the Brazilian side of the border. The waterfalls (Argentina and Brazil combined) include 275 falls within a distance of 2 km. The average flow is 1.3m listers per second. Visitors can easily visit the fall by walking through the man-built catwalks. You’ll quickly notice the national obsession of drinking matte. Most Argentinian families will be walking with with a thermos in their hands, sipping away on matte. So whether you’re in Brazil or Argentina, a quick stop in Iguazu will be worth it. Because most of the falls are located in Argentina, the view is spectacular from the Brazilian side. Pick whatever side you want, but do visit Iguazu Falls. You won’t regret it!
Here are 2 more waterfalls worth seeing if you’re in the area.
Angel’s Fall, Venezuela: Considered the tallest waterfall in the world, with a 979m drop, Angel’s Fall plunges directly in the Venezuelan jungle. It’s a little difficult to get there but definitely a must-see if you traveling in Venezuela.
Victoria Falls, Zambia: The largest waterfall in the world, with a width of 1.7km and a height of 108m, there is an average flow of 1 million liters per second. It’s considered one of the 7 wonders of the world so definitely worth a stop if you’re traveling in or near Zambia! The best part of visiting these falls is enjoying the falls from the Devil’s pool. It’s a natural formed pool overlooking the falls, allowing visitors to sit and enjoy the wonderful view.

Hi Jonathan! I actually only went to Iguazu Fall (Argentinian side) and absolutely loved it! I don’t plan on going to Venezuela anytime soon because of the political turmoil since Chavez has been running the country but maybe I’ll be visiting the one in Zambia. Thinking of going to Africa real soon. So many places to discover. Not enough time!!
