I would add that volunteers need to think really clearly about they have to offer as well as what they will get out of it. The whole experience for both volunteer and the local community will be much richer and more rewarding if an individual’s skills and experience are put to good use. And don’t worry that by doing something you already know, you won’t learn anything new. Just being there, living in a different culture, and sharing your skills will teach you more than you would ever learn in a classroom. Plus, it is guaranteed that you will get roped into a whole host of other activities that will be new and exciting.
