Shoalwater Marine Park
Visitors who come to this location can enjoy a day of snorkeling in the clear seawater. Snorkeling provides the opportunity to see a series of carnivorous reefs. The park is also the site of old shipwrecks. Visitors will also likely see dolphins and sea lions while snorkeling.
Munda Biddi
This expansive bike trail stretches more than 300 km in length along the coast. Biking along this trail gives backpackers the chance to admire the natural beauty of the region. There are also plenty of ideal camping spots along the trail.
Sorrento Beach
Located in the suburb of Sorrento, this lovely beach is the perfect place to go to unwind and enjoy the stunning views of the Indian Ocean. The beach is also a great place to enjoy a picnic or barbeque. Swimming, sunbathing and volleyball are other popular activities to enjoy.
Hyde Park
Named after the famous park in London, England, this peaceful parkland features a series of lakes and pristine lawns. The park is also known for its unique species of trees such as the Australian red cedar and the swamp cypress. Several different types of ducks inhabit the park as well.
The Bell Tower
This unusual modern structure provides the perfect photo opportunities. The Swan Bells, a series of 18 different bells, are featured on the tower. Some of these bells come from the English church known as Saint Martin-in-the-Field located in London’s iconic Trafalgar Square.
The Museum of Western Australia
Although a donation is requested upon entry, this museum is another free attraction for backpackers to visit. The museum features pieces representing Australia’s prehistoric past. Exhibitions include dinosaur fossils and items from ancient aboriginal societies.
Fremantle Roadhouse
This free attraction was once the site of a jail. Volunteers provide free tours of the building. Backpackers touring the site can also see a cannon shooting.
Kings Park
This large parkland offers stunning views of the downtown region from its hilltop location. The State Memorial, which pays tribute to fallen war veterans, is one of the park’s main features. The park also includes a series of beautiful gardens and manicured lawns.
CAT Bus
As an alternative to arranging a car hire, visitors can take a free tour of the city by hopping on a CAT bus located within the free ride zone. These buses also travel to some of the city’s best attractions.
Bibbulmun Track
This famous walking trail is more than 1,000 km long. The trail winds through Perth Hills as well as other nearby towns. The tail also leads visitors to the stunning coastline.
