Mexico

Mexico is not a spot one usually thinks of when planning a winter getaway. However it is hard to turn down the beaches of Cancun, the jungles of the Yucatan or the clubs of Tijuana. While the temperature in Mexico can soar to the 90 or over 100 degrees, the winter months tend to be a must more tolerable 85 degrees on average.  While some resorts will be closed others remain open and usually at a reduced cost. The rich cultural heritage of Mexico will give you celebrations unlike almost anywhere else.

Mount Olympus in Greece is a great vacation destination for rock-climbers. Rock-climbing on Mount Olympus is both challenging and beautiful. Proper equipment is essential for rock-climbing. During my 4-night stay on the boat, I managed to get into somewhat of a routine during the short time I was there. Because I was in bed relatively early at night, I was up by 7am in the morning. I would wake up and head straight for the gym, climbing 10 flight of stairs on my way there. I worked out for about 45 mins every day before heading to breakfast. My breakfast was filled with pastries, egg omelets and yogurt with granola. Oh man did I not feel guilty about eating it all! It pretty much kept me full until dinner.

That pretty much sums up the positive things about the cruise. And unfortunately, they are not enough to make me want to do it again. Not until I can’t walk anyway. Although it was great to wake up in a different place every morning, it inevitably translated into long line-ups to get off the boat or when entering the US, it meant passing customs again. It normally took at least 30 mins to get off the boat and that was easily doubled when we were required to pass customs. Once we were off the boat, it was all good. We had the entire day to enjoy but on the flip side, we were on a schedule because the boat would leave with or without us at a specific time. It meant that we didn’t have time to truly enjoy a place. I felt like it was a very superficial way to visit a city or beach. On the flip side, it’s a great way to see different places and then pick where you would like to spend more time. So anyhow, once we were back on the boat, let’s just say I wasn’t drinking too much because drinks are darn expensive. If you want to party, an all-inclusive option at a resort is definitely a better option. Once dinner had passed, I was a little bored. I’m not much of a gambler or shopper and quite frankly, the entertainment on the boat didn’t really appeal to me. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I’m used to traveling to a country and really immersing myself in it. On the boat, you feel like you’re watching american tv which I can do from home really.

I do recommend the boat to anyone who wants to be on vacation effortlessly. If you like being served and paying a lot of $$ for it, than it’s a great option for you. I personally wouldn’t pay that much to pass by a bunch of place. I rather see less but experience more.

Check out the Gold Coast itself

With over 35 miles of coastline, the Gold Coast has plenty of gorgeous beaches to choose from, and there’s no shortage of beachside activities to indulge in too. It may sound somewhat clichéd but a traditional Australian beachside BBQ is a nice way to spend an evening, especially if you’re with a partner or some friends. You’ll also get the chance to see some of the Gold Coast’s spectacular sunsets. During the day, swimming or surfing are popular activities to try, and there’s always the opportunity for a bit of sunbathing.

Cascade Gardens Park

During my stay, I spent a number of afternoons in the stunning Cascade Gardens, a park in Broadbeach between the Little Tallebudgera Creek and the Gold Coast Highway. The gardens contain several rainforest walks, a playground, an enclosed water bird sanctuary and plenty of space for BBQs, with covered picnic shelters available too. The park is open from 6am and entry is free all year round.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not!

A wander round the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum in Surfer’s Paradise is a great way to spend an afternoon. It’s open every day from 9am to 11pm, and is packed full of loads of, well, unbelievable exhibits. There’s everything from a two-legged pig to rare shrunken heads. Now the tickets aren’t free – they’re about $20 for an adult, but I’d say it’s definitely worth it.

Gold Coast Multicultural Festival

If you visit the Gold Coast over mid-September, then I definitely recommend you check out the Gold Coast Multicultural Festival at Evandale Parklands in Bundall. The festival is held every year and gives you the chance to experience a range of cultures with food, entertainment and arts and crafts. It runs from 10 in the morning until 4pm and it really is a great day out. And what’s more, it’s completely free.

The Gold Coast hinterland is definitely my favourite part of the Gold Coast, above all else. It’s home to a number of beautiful national parks, all of which are completely free to visit. Lamington National Park is perhaps the Gold Coast’s best and also happens to be the one I liked most too. Some of the vistas really will take your breath away – there’s everything from mountains and caves to rainforests and heaths. The park is also covered by over 90 miles of marked trails which are perfect for a bit of bushwalking. The hinterland is spread over a very large area so you’ll need to set aside several days to explore it all. When it comes to accommodation, there are plenty of options, with everything from campsites to lodges and guesthouses.

2. Peru – The scary trees
Get in the grove by zip lining through scary tress that hang down from meters high where the sun is barely seen. Or spook around inside the enormous tree trunks, you might want to wear something waterproof. Not only wander around trees but also take a gander on a river-boat vessel that will take you through jungle rivers, and fishing for piranhas.

3. Alaska – Ghostly landscapes
It is America’s largest national forest that holds a variety of landscapes, from flats lands to icy open terrain. The best place to peek at is the Menderhall Glacier, at which you can dogsled, or even take kayaks around the area. But one of the popular tours is seeing the big whales along the coast.

4. Maui, Hawaii – Magical
This forest is heavenly amazing, with bamboo everywhere, tropical fruit to eat at every stop, and even waterfall pools to take a plunge in every few kms. But one of the most well known waterfall pools is called Oheo Gulch. It is the home of seven sacred pools, so don’t miss this hot spot!

I have been to Mexico a couple of times, but never to a resort. So yes, I have seen the true Mexico but all of you who love the Mexican beaches tell me what is your favourite spot!

1. Cancun – It’s the perfect place for the package- holiday deal and to grasp all that relaxation. With clear, calm waters that are perfect for scuba diving and swimming with dolphins. The beach is known, to be one of the softest beaches in the entire country.
2. Acapulco – Back in the 1950 and 60’s this was the hot spot for all those celebrities. But as for today, it is now more known for those adventures type of individuals. Since there are great cliff diving spots, including the perfect place to go jet-skiing, and parasailing .
3. Manzanillo – This hot spot is more known as the fairyland area. Only because golden beaches are everywhere, with a crowd of attracting surfers, and many fashionable individuals bathing on the beach. But what is also great, is the swimming, kayaking, and horse-riding at night along the beach. How romantic is that?
4. Cabo San Lucas – This 33km stretch is now where all the Hollywood lovers seem to be spotted. The beach is filled with swimmers and beach volleyball lovers, yet the resorts around this area are also known for their golf courses.
5. Playa Del Carmen – Not only is the beach famous at this location but so is the world’s second largest coral reef. So a snorkel is a must at this location.

1. Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles, US: There was no way I was going to visit Los Angeles without strolling down Rodeo Drive. Let’s face it, I can’t afford anything on that street but it’s so worth visiting! An absolute must when in the city.

2. Fifth Avenue, New York, US: Most of you have probably heard of Fifth Avenue. Again, it’s not a street I can afford but definitely a must see if you’re in NYC! Maybe one day I’ll buy something from this famous street.

3. Avenida Florida, Buenos Aires, Argentina: I love this street in Buenos Aires! If you’re in Buenos Aires and looking for shoes, you definitely need to make a stop on Avenida Florida. You’ll find one shoe shop after another… it’s paradise!

4. Bahnhofstrass, Zurich, Switzerland: A relatively small city but I love this street because it’s so quaint. I have to admit that I bought primarily one item when visiting Zurich. CHOCOLATE! Yummmmm!

5. Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Milan, Italy: You won’t miss this Gallery if visiting Milano. I enjoyed a latte at the Gucci store. So random but it’s so Milan!

6. Avenue Montaigne, Paris, France: Ok, so this is one of those streets I couldn’t afford anything again! But, there’s nothing better than strolling down Av Montaigne and daydreaming when in Paris. Again, I hope to one day buy a few items at Dior!

7. Gran Via, Madrid, Spain: I was on a tight backpacker’s budget so I was so happy to see an H&M on Gran Via! It’s an affordable street to shop on. No complaints!

8. Market in Marrakech, Morocco: This was a monster market! It was such a great experience to visit this part of the world to begin with and then browsing through the narrow alleys of the marker was fantastic. You can find anything from food to purses to shoes. Negotiation is an absolute must. It was a great way to shop and experience the culture.

9. Khao San Rd, Bangkok, Thailand: If you’re a tourist in Bangkok, you’ll definitely stop by Khao San Rd. Shops and restaurants make up this street but so do artists! You can easily spot custom jewelry for relatively cheap!

10. Newburry Street, Boston, US: I love Boston. Newburry is such a cute street! One shop after another, you certainly cannot get bored. From brand name shops to local ones, there’s something for everyone.
