Over Rated Tourist Traps Around The World

Every backpacker/tourist goes to these places when traveling, only because they are “the must see” and most popular sites that are very unique. Yet, since they are like this, they are swarmed with tourists and really over all , a very big tourist trap!!!

The Blarney Stone

120 steps up a steep, narrow staircase to kiss a rock. Remember that after you kissed this famous rock, that about millions of others have too. Might want to save that kiss and take some stunning pictures of structure and landscape around it.

Stonehenge

Over eight hundred thousand tourists go to this wonder of the world every year. Well got to say I was one of them, however, once you are there you feel like it’s not worth it in the end; since you can not touch it, walk around it and over all you have to pay $12 just to go near it.

Times Square in New York City.

Needless to say, I love Times Square but overall is known to be just filled completely with tourists. That is why the restaurants and stores are over priced. Yet, if you really think about it, the square is only surrounded my large building, big billboards, and is overcrowded with people. So why do tourists love it?

London Eye

Now you maybe able to see the entire city, but that is only when you can find a clear day with no rain or fog. That can be a little difficult during most months. Plus since the weather is very mild in London, staying in a glass pod for over half hour, may feel a little sticky. So is this really a great way to see the city from high above?

Mona Lisa

I remember how excited I was to see the Mona Lisa for the first time, but in the end I was so disappointed. This world-renowned piece of art is so small. I did not picture it being that small in my head. Plus another downfall, you can not take any photos, but even if you tried that would be very hard. Since there are so many tourists surrounding it, you won’t be able to get a close, clear view of it.

Niagara Falls

Yes, I sort of live near the falls and yes it is a wonder of the world, but the city is another story. The falls it’s self is a beautiful nature wonder, but the strip of tourist restaurants and cheesy wax museums, and haunted houses is an eye-sore. It is called Clifton Hill and that block is very dull and unattractive compared to looking at the falls.

Leaning tower of Pisa

When I was travelling Europe for the first time, the leaning tower of Pisa was on the top of my list. When I saw it, I was just a little disappointed. Not because it wasn’t leaning, because it is, but due to the fact that there were so many tourists! Tourists doing the same thing; pretending to hold the tower. Now it may look really cool in a photo, but everyone must have the same looking photo! I don’t know but I thought it was a tourist trap.

Hollywood, Walk of Fame

I loved California! But the walk of fame was just not really all that exciting. One side of the street is filled with a bunch of stars’ names etched in concrete and the other side of the street is just a plain boring street. Nothing to fancy, like I thought it would.

totally agree with you on Stonehenge. Save the fee and view from the fence, or better still whilst you drive past it on the A303. Or if you know someone with a National Trust card, borrow it, then it is free!

I def agree with the last 4.
Mona Lisa: Huge disappointment, especially that we were stuck in such big crowds of tourists before seeing the painting.
Niagara Fall: Once you’ve seen Iguazu Falls, Niagara Falls is not very impressing.
Pisa: I wouldn’t spend more than 1 hours in Pisa! Once you’ve taken a picture of the tower, there is nothing else to do!
Hollywood Walk of Fame: Big, big disapointment! They make Hollywood Blvd seem so glamorous on tv.
But… you’ve got to see these places at least once in your life! :)

They may be overrated but they’re still worth seeing otherwise no one would know and no one would go. Better than only seeing the inside of a pub too!
