Want to Eat Body Parts? Go to Germany.

There are some crazy things going on in the world, but I wasn’t prepared for this! There is a restaurant in Berlin called Flimé that was supposed to open last September. So what’s unusual? A few months before the opening, they were asking donators to donate their body parts to turn them into a meal. Yuck!

What type of meal could you expect from Flimé? Let’s take Brazilian cuisine for instance. They were suggesting an appetizer by the name of bolinho, which is “fried tartar balls with sweet-sour dip”. The main course meal would be feijoada, a mix of meats with black beans and rice. What type of meat? Who knows…

The opening of this restaurant caused much protests especially because in 2001 Bernd Jürgen Brandes, a computer technician volunteered himself to Armin Meiwes, a self-confessed cannibal who then chopped off Bernd’s penis and season it with salt, pepper and garlic. He then consumed the rest of his flesh over the following months. He was sentenced to life in prison in 2006.

Are you ready for the twist of the story? Right before the scheduled opening of the restaurant in September 2010, the truth came out. It was a hoax organized vegetarian group trying to get a message across. Some people have way too much time in their hands…
